Lisa Krissoff Boehm is a professor of urban studies at Worcester State College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the author of Making a Way out of No Way: African American Women and the Second Great Migration (2009).


Collection consists of interviews, including transcripts and compact discs, conducted by Lisa Krissoff Boehm as research for her book on African-American women who migrated from the mostly rural American South to the North during the Second Great Migration, ca. 1940-1970. Frequent topics of discussion include interviewees' backgrounds and parents' employment, first jobs and later careers, family and children, perceived differences between the North (mainly Michigan) and the South, and encounters with discrimination. There is no corresponding recording for interview #1.39.
