HISTORY

This office, formerly the Assistant Dean's Office (1982-1985), grew out of the Office of Institutional Policy Research on Women's Education (1978-1982), jointly funded by Radcliffe and the Harvard President's Office. The Office of Institutional Policy Research was administered by Susan Bailey and was in charge of studies and research evaluating women's education at Harvard and Radcliffe. With the ending of joint funding in 1982, Norma Ware was appointed Assistant Dean for Special Projects. This office coordinates research activities on women at Harvard and Radcliffe, and develops, implements and evaluates programs that address women's needs. It administers the Radcliffe Summer Program in Science (1983- ) with the Harvard Extension School, and offers high school girls an opportunity to learn about science careers, have discussions with women scientists and pay visits to labs and industies in the greater Boston area. It is in charge of the Radcliffe College alumnae records, a repository of information on living alumnae.
