HISTORY

The Women's Equity Action League (WEAL) of Massachusetts was convened with chapter status on September 9, 1971, by Vilma Hunt at Pine Manor Junior College. National WEAL merged with the WEAL Fund in 1981; WEAL of Massachusetts became an affiliate in 1983. Although national WEAL dissolved in 1990, WEAL of Massachusetts has remained active.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The records were collected from various members and integrated, removing duplication. They include by-laws, chapter, and affiliation records; board of directors' minutes and correspondence; correspondence, notes, programs and other published material re: events and/or issues; nominating committee and membership records; a few folders of public relations materials; a few items relating to finances; and information about joint conferences and other activities related to WEAL's interests. Reference copies of newsletters are in the library's periodical department; archival copies are filed separately. Publications by national WEAL, and clippings about women's issues in general, were removed.
