BIOGRAPHY

Appointed by President Truman in 1948 to the Federal Communications Commission, Frieda Hennock, a New York lawyer, was the first woman member of a major federal regulatory agency.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The bulk of her papers relates to her work on the Frieda Hennock Simons, 1948-1955, and includes correspondence, notes, drafts, speeches, opinions, and general Commission material. Letters of congratulations on the important occasions of her later life show her acquaintance with important business, education, and political leaders. The collection also includes some personal correspondence before 1948 and papers relating to her legal work after 1955.
