HISTORY

A biographical dictionary that includes women who died between 1951 and 1975. A continuation of Notable American Women, 1607-1950, volume IV was edited by Barbara Sicherman and Carol Hurd Green, with Ilene Kantrov and Harriette Walker.

ARRANGEMENT

The collection is arranged in seven series:

SCOPE AND CONTENT

This collection documents the preparation of Volume IV, the supplementary volume to Notable American Women, Vols. I-III, edited by Barbara Sicherman, Carol Hurd Green, with Ilene Kantrov and Harriet Walker. The material includes the administrative files of correspondence with authors, board members and the National Endowment for the Humanities, which funded the project, 1976-1980. In addition, it contains authors' release forms, personnel data, the minutes of the Advisory Board and the Committee of Consultants. Evaluations of subjects considered for inclusion, research material, draft articles and biographical data on subjects form the major part of the collection.
