National Abortion Rights Action League state affiliates newsletter collection, 1967-2007; item description, dates. Pr-5, carton #. Schlesinger Library, Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.

HISTORY

Formed in 1969, the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws, NARAL was the first national gathering of grassroots activists advocating the repeal of state abortion laws. Following the decriminalization of abortion with the landmark Roe v. Wade decision of the United States Supreme Court in 1973, NARAL became the National Abortion Rights Action League and opened a national office in Washington, D.C. The primary goals of its affiliates were to track legislation, to lobby for reproductive rights at the state and federal levels, and to compile annual guides to inform voters of their congressional delegations voting record.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

Collection consists of NARAL affiliate newsletters. The material is arranged alphabetically by state.
NARAL's web site is being captured periodically as part of Harvard University Library's Web Archive Collection (WAX).
