Biographical and Historical Note

Aziz El-Shawan (1916-1993) was an Egyptian composer, educated in Russia and in France. Al-Shawan wrote music in many genres, for Western as well as traditional Egyptian instruments.

Scope and Content

This is the entire collection of Aziz El-Shawan's manuscripts, with complete works, sketches and miscellaneous materials. It includes piano, vocal and orchestra scores, and orchestral parts.
Some items in the collection are composed on the backs of Peace Tourism stationery. Peace Tourism was a company founded by the composer's wife.
