Biographical Note

Ezekiel Goddard Dodge (1765-1819) was a physician practicing in Thomaston, Maine. He was born in Abington, Massachusetts, on 18 April 1765, to Mary Goddard and Ezekiel Dodge (1723-1770), A.B., Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts, a minister. Dodge entered Harvard as a temporary student in 1782, but he was expelled for disciplinary reasons. He subsequently practiced medicine in Warren, Maine, with Micah Packard, before he moved to Thomaston in 1789 and set up his medical practice there. He took on a pupil, Benjamin Webber, of Boston, Massachusetts, who became a partner in the practice for a number of years. In addition to medicine, Dodge was active in local politics, trade, and land speculation.
Dodge married Susanna Winslow on 8 August 1798, and they had eight children, four of whom lived to adulthood: Ezekiel Goddard, Jr.; Mary; Josiah; and Robert. Ezekiel Dodge died in Thomaston 4 August 1819 of an unknown illness.
