Abstract: Papers relating to Shattuck's activities as a member of the Loyalty Review Board of the U.S. Civil Service Commission (1947-1953) and as chairman of the Interim Mixed Parole and Clemency Board for German War Criminals (1953-1954).

The papers of Henry Lee Shattuck, attorney and onetime member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, were presented to the Harvard Law School Library by Mr. Shattuck in October and November of 1967.

Scope and Contents

The 1400 items in these two collections of papers of Henry Lee Shattuck (1879-1971) span the years 1947 to 1954. There are a few scattered items dated after 1954.
The collections include correspondence, memoranda, minutes of meetings, reports, drafts, legal opinions, legal summons, lists, government orders, directives, rules and regulations, charts, clippings, and some pamphlet and other printed material.
These papers relate to the activities of the Loyalty Review Board and the Interim Mixed Parole and Clemency Board, to their internal affairs, and they present some background material on the cases that they handled. Mr. Shattuck was Chairman of the Interim Mixed Parole and Clemency Board and a member of the U.S. Loyalty Review Board.
Each of the two collections contains a reprint of a paper that Mr. Shattuck presented at meetings of the Massachusetts Historical Society. They are entitled respectively " The Loyalty Review Board of the U.S. Civil Service Commission, 1947-1953," and " The Interim Mixed Parole and Clemency Board."
