Scope and Content

The Lewis J. Paper Collection consists of research materials used by Mr. Paper in writing two of his books: Brandeis: An Intimate Biography and Empire: William S. Paley and the Making of CBS. Mr. Paper is currently a partner in the law firm of Keck, Mahin, and Cate in Washington, D.C.
The collection is broken into two series, each covering one of the books mentioned above. The time span covered by the collection is considerable. Much of Mr. Paper's research materials are copies made from Presidential Libraries. However, the bulk of the collection is concerned with the Supreme Court opinions of Justice Brandeis. There are indexes created by Mr. Paper in the Brandeis series to help access the material. There is no personal material concerning Mr. Paper in the collection.
