Abstract: Theater promotional material and personal notes.
Phoebe Andrews Luther from Brooklyn, New York was a theater enthusiast and avidly collected late 19th and early 20th century theater ephemera. Luther frequented the following performance venues within the New York City area: Brooklyn Academy of Music, Montauk Theatre, Garrick Theatre, Daly's Theatre, Empire Theatre, Knickerbocker, Lyceum, Broadway Theatre, Belasco Theatre, and Metropolitan Opera House.
Collection is minimally processed. Materials are arranged according to the theater records and scrapbooks in roughly chronologic order.
Collection includes six scrapbooks, where Phoebe Andrews Luther compiled an account of theater performances and actors she had seen. Four of the scrapbooks contain handwritten notes, including the title of the play, name of the theater, the date of the performance, who accompanied her, and criticisms of the performance and individual actors. Also included in the scrapbooks are photographs, newspaper clippings, and programs.
