Biographical / Historical

Violette Verdy (born Nelly Armande Guillerm) was a French-born ballerina, choreographer, teacher, and writer. She performed with a number of companies including American Ballet Theatre and the New York City Ballet and was the star of Ludwig Berger's 1950 movie "Ballerina". Verdy served as director with the Paris Opera Ballet in France and the Boston Ballet in the United States and later as head of the ballet program at Indiana University.
