Biographical / Historical

Tom Heslewood (1868-1959) was a British actor and set and costume designer. His first stage appearance was at London's Shaftesbury Theatre, 1893. Throughout his acting career he also designed costumes for the theatrical costumier L. & H. Nathan Ltd., for various London productions of Shakespeare and numerous musical comedies. He frequently appeared as an actor in the productions he had designed.

Scope and Contents

Two costume designs for the 1905 London Scala Theatre production of The Conqueror, the play written by Millicent, Duchess of Sutherland under the pen name R. E. Fyffe, and 19 costume designs for the 1906 Imperial Theatre production of the masquerade The Harlequin king, the German play König Harlekin by Rudolph Lothar, adapted into English by Louis N. Parker and Selwyn Brinton.
Designs for The Conqueror are matted, designs for The Harlequin King are pasted on sheets of plain paper.
