Biographical / Historical

Brenda (Schooner) [also called a yacht] was built at Boston. These papers show that Brenda was owned at one time by David Sears Jr., who sold her to John Albion Andrew, who sold her to George Washington Collamore. Collamore (1818-1863) formed a partnership with future Massachusetts governor John Albion Andrew which lasted until 1856. Collamore was an abolitionist and eventually moved his family to Kansas and became an agent for the settlers. He was commissioned a brigadier general during the Civil War and then became mayor of Lawrence, Kansas. He was killed in 1863 in the Lawrence massacre, also known as Quantrill's raid.
