Arranged in chronological order of Lear's travels.

Scope and Contents

37 original watercolor drawings of landscapes based on Lear's travels. Includes views of Italy, Greece, Turkey, Albania, Egypt, Israel, Crete, Montenegro, France, India, and Ceylon. Some include autograph manuscript annotations by Lear.
The group of landscape drawings described in this finding aid are more finished than the ones described in the finding aid "Lear, Edward, 1812-1888. Edward Lear landscape drawings: Guide. (MS Typ 55.11, MS Typ 55.26, TypDr 805.L513)". Often they were made by Lear in his studio several years after he had visited the site depicted. Whenever possible these drawings have been described with two different dates: the first one corresponds to the date of Lear's travel, the one in parenthesis to the date of the production of the watercolor.
