Biographical / Historical

John Milton Ward (1917-2011) was the Harvard University William Powell Professor of Music. A specialist in Renaissance and Elizabethan music as well as English popular and folk music from the 16th century to the present, his collecting interests included primary source material related to these subjects, as well as material documenting music as it related to the theater, particularly focusing on ballet, opera, operetta and musicals. Additional interests led to extensive collecting in the areas of ethnomusicology and the history of social dance.
