Biographical / Historical

James Burnett Lowell (February 4, 1873- October 24, 1947; Harvard AB 1894) was born named James Russell Lowell Burnett, the son of Mabel Lowell Burnett (1847-1898) and Edward Burnett (1849-1925). His grandfather was James Russell Lowell (1819-1891; Harvard AB 1838) the poet, critic, editor, and diplomat. His grandfather asked the family to legally change the child's name to the surname of Lowell. James Burnett Lowell married Harriet Worden Lowell (1872-1943) and they had one child, James Russell Lowell (1901-1960). J. B. Lowell worked on the New York Stock Exchange with the firm of Worden Co.
