Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet and writer. He was a close friend of American poet and dramatist, Josephine Preston Peabody (1874-1922), who was the wife of the donor of these materials, Harvard Professor Lionel Simeon Marks.
