Abstract: Publications issued by the Sir Arthur Sullivan Society, including libretti, discographies, and opera histories.
The Sir Arthur Sullivan Society, founded in England in 1977, is a charity that works to promote knowledge and performance of the music of Arthur Sullivan. Toward this end, it issues newsletters, libretti, and other publications, and organizes festivals, lectures, and concert events.Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900) was an English composer and conductor, best known for his collaborations with librettist W. S. (William Schwenck) Gilbert (1836-1911). He also composed operas with a number of other librettists, as well as concertos, oratorios, incidental music, and music in other genres.
Arranged alphabetically by folder title.
This collection consists of published material issued by the Sir Arthur Sullivan Society. Each of the booklets focuses on a single Sullivan opera; they were typically issued during the centenary anniversary of that opera. The booklets contain history, criticism, reprints of contemporary articles, imagery related to the opera, and music. Libretti for Sullivan operas are also included. The newsletters describe events sponsored by the society and its routine business, and the yearbooks consist primarily of annual reports and membership lists. The festivals folder contains advertisements, programs, and booking forms from the society's annual Sullivan Festival.
