Scope and Contents

Collection consists of portraits of composers, musicians, and singers depicted primarily in cartes-de-visite (card photographs) and cabinet photographs. There are a few photographic postcards, photomechanical prints, copy prints and one musical recital program. The bulk of the collection is from the 19th century with a few items from the 20th cenutry, many photographs are undated. The largest number of items are from photographic studios in the United States and England, but also include France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia, Poland, and Belgium. Notable musicians and composers include Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi, and Johann Strauss.
