Scope and Contents

An extensive collection of primarily autograph manuscript letters of authors, artists, and others, although the collection also includes some manuscript compositions. All were collected by Amy Lowell and many items include wrappers and notes annotated by Lowell. Collection includes autograph manuscript material by: Jane Austen, William Blake, Charlotte Brontë, Ludwig van Beethoven, Walter Crane, Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin, Emily Dickinson, George Eliot, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louis XV, Benjamin Franklin, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Heinrich Heine, Victor Hugo, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Johnson, Marie Antoinette, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Claude Monet, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Theodore Roosevelt, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, John Ruskin, George Sand, Clara Schumann, Percy Bysshe Shelley, William Makepeace Thackeray, J.
