Scope and Contents

This copy is extra-illustrated and extended to 12 volumes with engraved portraits, views, many contemporary, and with autograph letters and documents. A specially printed title-page with imprint, London: Bickers & Son, 1877, and substituting "Illustrated" for "With numerous portraits ... Woodburytype," is inserted at front of each volume. The portraits are not present, presumably cancelled." Lists of additions are bound, as printed, at the end of vol. 6.
