Biographical / Historical

Roberts was an Irish actor at the Abbey Theatre and a publisher at Maunsel and Company. The Abbey Theatre was an Irish theatrical company devoted primarily to indigenous drama, opening its doors in 1904. The Irish National Theatre Society was an Irish theater company that performed at the Abbey Theatre and was co-founded by William Butler Yeats and Lady Augusta Gregory.

Includes correspondence of George Roberts from various correspondents, including William George Fay, Lady Augusta (Persse) Gregory, Stephen Gwynn, James Owen Hannay, Joseph Maunsell Hone, Annie Elizabeth Horniman, Sir Shane Leslie, George Moore, George William Russell, James Starkey, and William Butler Yeats. Also includes a typescript of Bridget Bruin's part in The land of heart's desire by William Butler Yeats, among other manuscripts. Documents include minutes, clippings, and programs of the Irish National Theatre Society, and notes and seating plans of the Abbey Theatre, among other items.
