Chiefly correspondence of Howe (primarily 1929-1937 and including carbon copies of outgoing letters) mostly concerning his biographical research and writings. Also includes research notes, manuscripts of writings, and clippings of reviews of some of Howe's books. Among the manuscripts are pieces Howe wrote for the Boston Athenaeum's Athenaeum Items, which he edited.
