Biographical / Historical

Schlesinger was a German composer. He studied music in Boston and served for 17 years as the German consul in Boston.

Scope and Contents

Chiefly letters to Schlesinger, including 38 from Wilkie Collins and 26 from Robert Franz; together with a few letters which Schlesinger probably collected for their autograph value. Many of the letters to Schlesinger concern his songs. Some are letters of thanks from persons to whom Schlesinger dedicated his songs. Others concern requests by Schlesinger for permission to set poems to music.
