Biographical / Historical

Richard Edler Von Mises, mathematician and philosopher of science, was Gordon McKay Professor of Aerodynamics and Applied Mathematics at Harvard. He collected German and Austrian literature, and particularly the works of Rainer Maria Rilke.

Consists of 33 letters to von Mises and writings of von Mises. Correspondents include Ferdinand Lion, Karl Lorenz, and other noted German authors and colleagues of von Mises. Also notes, typewritten revisions, and proofs for Wahrscheinlichkeit, Statistik und Wahrheit, as well as unidentified manuscripts and a photograph. Papers are in German.
