Biographical / Historical

Frederic Tudor (1783-1864) was the successful "Ice King" of Boston, who sold ice in tropical climates. His brother Henry James Tudor (1791-1864) studied law and worked for a while in Frederic Tudor's ice business. Another brother William Tudor (1779-1830) was a merchant, legislator, author, and diplomat. Their father William Tudor (1750-1819) was a Boston lawyer and top political figure.

Scope and Contents

Consists of letters and documents of various members of the Tudor family. Includes 15 letters from Frederic Tudor to his brother Henry James Tudor, deeds and indentures, journal of Frederic Tudor on a trip from Boston to New Orleans, 1826. Also includes some correspondence of Jeremiah Mason, United States senator from New Hampshire.
