*83M-59. Purchased with the Amy Lowell fund; received: 1983 March.

These papers were purchased in two groups; those received in November 1982 at the Phillips sale on 7 October 1982 (Lot 427), and those received in March 1983 (the Reginald Blunt/Chelsea Society collection) from the Chelsea Public Library. The two groups have been integrated in the following list; a list of the Chelsea Society papers is enclosed in no.(310).

Includes the correspondence of Elizabeth Robinson Montagu and other members of the Montagu family, as well as other correspondence. Some of Elizabeth Robinson Montagu's letters are copies. Also includes a manuscript by Francis Charlton; a photograph of an unidentified man, possibly Alan Benjamin Cheales; lace samples and patterns from Emily J. Climenson; cost sheet and receipts for Emily J. Climenson's The diary of Mrs. P. Jean Mondenard's real name was Jean de Saint-Sardos, Marquis de Mondenard. He was born in Castelsarrasin on 1761 June 20. He went into exile to England during the French Revolution and published under the family name of Montagu de Mondenard, the name of the family who had not gone into exile but remained in the Aquitaine. He later returned to France and settled in Paris where he died on 1823 Feb. 7. [Information provided by Michel de Mondenard, Jan. 2005].
