Biographical / Historical

Tischendorf was a German biblical critic. Caspar René Gregory was an American biblical scholar and professor at the University of Leipzig. James Hardy Ropes (A.B. 1889) served as Hollis Professor of Divinity at Harvard (1910-1933).

Scope and Contents

Portions of corrected proof sheets and offprints of works by Tischendorf, including his Monumenta sacra inedita and Synopsis evangelia, and editions of the Greek New Testament. Also contains autograph manuscripts in German describing Jerusalem and fragments of Die Anfectungen der Sinaibibel and an appendix to Novi Testamenti Vaticani. Also includes offprints of Caspar René Gregory's "Reformen an der Universität Leipzig" (1912) and James Hardy Ropes' and William H. P. Hatch's "The vulgate, Peshitto, Sahidic and Bohairic versions of Acts and the Greek manuscripts" (1928).
