Biographical / Historical

Woodberry (1855-1930) was an American poet, critic, and teacher. He graduated from Harvard College in 1877, and was a professor of English at the University of Nebraska (1880-1882) and at Columbia University (1891-1904). He wrote scholarly biographies of the American writers Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Scope and Contents

Includes letters, copies of letters, research notes, clippings, photographs, writings on Poe, print, and other papers assembled by Woodberry during research for his books on American poet, Edgar Allen Poe. These books include: Edgar Allan Poe (1885); The works of Edgar Allan Poe (1894-1895); and Life of Edgar Allan Poe (1909).
