Scope and Contents

This collection consists of sermons in an unidentified hand. The sermons were originally attributed to Samuel Walton McDaniel, but it appears unlikely based on the dates and McDaniel's later life as a lawyer and judge. They are arranged chronologically, and there a significant amount of undated sermons, as well. The collection also contains reports and expenses for Edward L. Hackett. Hackett was investigating brothels, opium dens, and gambling locations for the Good Government Society of the League of Christian Endeavor in York, Pennsylvania and his reports include his interactions with prostitutes, drug users, and gamblers.
