Abstract: Two volumes of sermons by minister John Pierce. The sermons span 1806-1845.
John Pierce (1773-1849) was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard College in 1793. He accepted an invitation to become the pastor of the First Church in Brookline, Massachusetts, and was ordained on March 15, 1797. In 1798, he married Abigail Lovel, who died in 1800. In 1802, he married Lucy Tappan, and he and Lucy were married for 47 years and had 10 children. Pierce was the sole pastor of the First Church in Brookline for 50 years. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Convention of Congregational Ministers, the Massachusetts Congregational Charitable Society, the Boston Association, and was secretary to the Board of Overseers of Harvard College.
This collection consists of two volumes of Rev. Pierce's sermons. The sermons are handwritten, and the volumes are bound in leather.
