John Smith Lowe (1878-1954) was born in Watertown, New York. He received his BD from the Canton Theological School of St. Lawrence University in 1901. That same year he was ordained a Universalist minister in Edwards, New York. In 1918, he was conferred an honorary DD degree by Lombard Theological College. Between 1901 and his death in 1954, he served as minister in congregations in La Crosse, Wisconsin; Providence, Rhode Island; Boston, Massachusetts; and Rockland, Maine. Lowe was also the general superintendent of the Universalist Church of America from 1917 to 1928.
