Abstract: Film with address to the Annual Assembly of the Massachusetts Council of Churches, December 9, 1972 by the Dean of the Harvard Divinity School Krister Stendahl (1921- ).
Krister Stendahl (1921- ) graduated from the University of Uppsala in Sweden with a BD in 1944, a Teol. lic. in 1949, and a ThD in 1954. He is an ordained clergyman in the Church of Sweden (Lutheran) and pastor in the Lutheran Church of America. He served the dioceses of Stockholm and Uppsala until 1951 and taught biblical studies at Uppsala University until 1954, when he joined the faculty of Harvard Divinity School. He became the John H. Morrison Professorship of New Testament Studies in 1958 and the Frothingham Professor of Biblical Studies in 1963. From 1968 to 1979, Stendahl was Dean of Harvard Divinity School and John Lord O'Brian Professor of Divinity. In 1979, he became the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Divinity, and since his retirement has been the Mellon Professor of Divinity Emeritus. He was Bishop of Stockholm from 1984 to 1988.
