Biographical / Historical

Cuthbert Collingwood Gordon (1807-1884) was born in Salem, New Hampshire. He was ordained as a Universalist minister in 1837. He served churches in Mt. Vernon and Nunda, New York, and South Danvers, Massachusetts. Gordon retired from the ministry in 1860 for health reasons. He also worked as a secretary for Architectural Iron Works and served briefly as president of the Philadelphia Car Company.

Scope and Contents

The bulk of the collection consists of letters to Cuthbert Collingwood Gordon from other Universalist ministers and laymen. Correspondents include C.A. Blauvelt, Benjamin B. Hallock, Nathaniel Mayo, Adoniram Judson Patterson, John R. Sage, Thomas Jefferson Greenwood, and Charles Welden Tomlinson.
