Biographical / Historical

The Blue Hill Street Railway Company was organized in 1899 by the Stone and Webster Company of Boston. The company operated an electric railway line connecting Boston with the outlying towns of Milton, Canton and Stoughton. Financed and managed by Stone and Webster, the line operated for some years but was never a financial success. The company was forced into receivership in 1919, and the property of the firm was sold for junk. A fire in 1909 destroyed much of the company's property. Relatively few records prior to 1909 survive.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of director's and stockholders' records, ledgers, financial reports, operating reports, annual reports, payroll information, scrapbooks and a letter book.
