Biographical / Historical

Adler and Childs Department Store was located in Dayton, Ohio. In 1950 the store closed, and its entire stock of merchandise was sold to Raymonds of Boston, department store. Sharply declining sales during the preceding 4 months was part of the decision to close.

Scope and Contents

Partial records, gathered for a case study, of a department store in Dayton, Ohio which closed in 1950. There are balance sheets and/or monthly reports, except for the war years; also inventory records (1933-1947) and merchandise plan figures (1934-1948, with gaps). A few figures for later years relate to the Johnston-Shelton Company, department store of Dayton.
