The Barre Cheese Company was formed in Barre, Massachusetts, in the County of Worchester on February 9, 1864. The partnership was formed with the purpose of the manufacturing of cheese, and the partners promised that they would "furnish said company, for the term of five years, the milk of the number of cows, hereunto set against our respective names to be manufactured into cheese." The company was officially dissolved on December 29, 1897 with the selling of the real estate of the company at a public auction.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 23 volumes which represent the records of the "doings of the Barre Cheese Company to be kept by their clerk." The handwritten account books and journals not only document the daily activities of the company, but also its inception and eventual dissolution.
