The Consolidated Investment Trust (CIT) was a Boston, Massachusetts based medium-sized
mutual fund founded in 1933 by a small group of prominent Boston businessman including
Chandler Hovey, W. Rodman Peabody, and Frederic E. Snow. The fund began with the consolidation
of mutual funds managed by Peabody & Co. in the 1930s which at the time had several
thousand shareholders. In 1972 Consolidated Investment Trust acquired Boston Property
Trust and was soon thereafter reorganized. Due to a slow decline in total assets over
the next 10 years, in 1982 CIT sought to combine with another investment company and
were ultimately acquired by The George Putnam Fund of Boston in December of the same

The Consolidated Investment Trust records span the years 1933 to 1982 and primarily
document the management of the fund over five decades beginning with its inception
in 1933 through to its liquidation on December 17, 1982. The collection consists of
thirteen volumes which contain trustee records, executive committee records, and shareholder
- Series I. Trustee records
Scope and Contents: This series is comprised of six volumes containing the records of the Board of Trustees
for Consolidated Investment Trust. The volumes include the Agreement and Declaration
of the Consolidated Investment Trust and board meeting minutes which detail all votes,
bills of sale, elections, and share purchases. Also included are letters to shareholders,
committee and shareholder reports, amendments to the trust, and documents related
to the 1972 acquisition of Boston Personal Property Trust and the acquisition of the
Consolidated Investment Trust in 1982 by The George Putnam Fund of Boston.

for Consolidated Investment Trust. The volumes contain committee meeting minutes which
detail votes, bills of sale, elections, discussions of investments, earnings reports,
share purchases, and discussions related to investment policies. Also included in
volume 10 are reports from the Audit Committee summarizing auditing activities and

Scope and Contents: This series is comprised of three volumes containing the records of the annual shareholders
meetings. The volumes include the minutes of each annual meeting, meeting notices,
and annual reports to stockholders summarizing the end of year assets, liabilities,
stocks, and bonds. Also included are the documents related to a special meeting of
the shareholders which was held in 1982 for the approval of the Agreement and Plan
of Reorganization providing for the transfer of the Trust's assets to The George Putnam
Fund of Boston.
