Biographical Note:

Professor Georges F. Doriot was born in Paris in 1899. He enrolled in Harvard Business School in 1921 and was hired by Dean Wallace B. Donham in 1925. He became Associate Professor of Industrial managment in 1926 and taught at HBS for forty years. He retired in 1966. Doriot died in 1987.
Following graduation, Doriot decided to settle in America instead of returning to France and the after-effects of the War. In 1925, Georges Doriot was hired by Dean Wallace B. Donham as the assistant dean of Harvard Business School. A year later, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Industrial management and started his own course in Manufacturing Industries, geared toward the study of factories and production. Doriot retired from teaching in 1966 after forty years of teaching at the University. Doriot died on June 2, 1987 in his home from lung cancer.

Scope and Content Note:

Collection includes Georges F. Doriot's correspondence and research while at HBS related to aviation, atomic energy, and radio isotopes, 1928-1952. Aviation correspondence includes letters requesting trade literature and information from companies and replies. Atomic energy and radio isotopes research and correspondence includes letters from students conducting research for Doriot's Manufacturing Course.
This collection also includes brochures, pamphlets, and other ephemera related to aviation owned by Doriot, 1927-1935 documenting companies and manufacturers in his field.
