Baker Library holds the John Bryant account books, 1801-1812. This two volume collection
contains a ledger and an account book kept by merchant John Bryant before entering
into partnership with William Sturgis in Bryant & Sturgis.
Mercantile firm of Boston, Mass. engaged chiefly in the China trade . The partners were John Bryant and William Sturgis.
The collection includes waste books, journals, ledgers, and letter books (including
one of John Perkins Cushing ). There are statements of account of William Sturgis , 1827-1861 (with gaps); a journal (diary) of Charles H. Hammatt , Sandwich Islands ( Hawaii ), 1823-1825; and an exchange reckoner of John Sturgis, 1821.

tells about efforts to sell a vessel (Cleopatra's Barge) to King Riho Riho, arrivals
